The Problem - Can't detach Surface Book 2 keyboard
Recently, I started having issues when trying to detach my keyboard on my Surface Book 2. Every time I tried, a pop up appeared saying I had to resolve issues before detaching. The pop up listed a few applications that needed to be closed before detaching the keyboard. I wasn't seeing this popup until recently so this was a bad turn in user experience. One of the reasons for buying the Surface Book 2 was so I could detach the keyboard and use the display in tablet mode.The Solution
After searching around (link), I saw something related to the higher speed Nvidia graphics chip located in the keyboard. I realized that recently I had switch to using the Nvidia graphics chip primarily. I did this with Nvidia's control panel. The solution was to change this setting back in the the Nvidia control panel. You can find the Nvidia control panel by opening the system control panel and searching for Nvidia. Click the Nvidia control panel and then select "Integrated Graphics" in the Manage 3d settings->Global settings->preferred graphics processor. Be aware that setting the mode to "Integrated Graphics" can decrease performance in certain applications that benefit from higher speed graphics. If that's a concern, I suggest switching this graphics setting back and forth as needed. Alternatively, you can set the graphics mode for individual applications in the "Program Settings" tab. So far, I haven't needed the higher performance graphics. And I really appreciate being able to detach quickly to use my Surface Pro 2 as a tablet.
