Using a Toshiba 4K Fire TV as a Windows 10 display (2560 x 1440)

AMD Radeon windows settings

I decided to see what it might be like if I used my 55in Toshiba 4K TV as a Windows display. This was mostly just an experiment as I don’t think it would be all that practical as you would need to sit fairly close to the screen at full resolution and 100% scaling in order to be able to read/use it.

As I started to attempt this, I realized that Windows 10 wasn’t allowing me to switch the display higher than 1080p (1920 x 1080) which I thought was strange since I knew I had a 4K TV. I googled around but didn’t find anything specific to this setup that would help me. I decided to look in the display settings and found the AMD Radeon settings app. It had a setting that did the trick, Virtual Super Resolution. I switched this on, and voila, I now had options up to 2560 x 1440 resolution (4K).

As a side, I noticed I couldn’t also enable GPU Scaling at the same time. Doing that caused the Virtual Super Resolution to turn off.

My setup:
