Play It By Year 2 — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-20

What this app does

Play It By Year 2 is a music player that plays audio files already stored on your device. It reads song metadata (title, artist, album, year, genre, file path) from your device's media library (Android's MediaStore) in order to list and play your music. The app also supports Android Auto, browsing the same on-device library from your car's head unit. This data never leaves your device — it is not transmitted, uploaded, sold, or shared with anyone.

Permissions

The app's built-in file browser can delete audio files you select, using Android's own system delete-confirmation dialog (MediaStore.createDeleteRequest). The app never accesses files outside your music library through this feature.

Analytics and advertising

This app contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs of any kind.

Support Development link

The About screen offers an optional, no-strings "Support Development" link. This is a plain external link to the developer's PayPal.Me page — it is not a Google Play Billing purchase, and no feature in the app is unlocked or gated by it. Opening the link takes you to PayPal in your browser; PayPal's own privacy policy governs any information you choose to provide there.

Data storage

Playback preferences (sort order, filters, last-played song, etc.), playlists you create, and optional local playback history are stored locally on your device only, using Android's standard app-private storage. Playback history can be disabled or cleared at any time from Settings. Nothing described here is sent to any server operated by the developer, because no such server exists.
